Uniarte is seeking a motivated, versatile candidate for a part-time Junior Curator/Coordinator role. This position supports both the conceptual development and practical realization of Uniarte’s artistic programming, operating from its new headquarters above Bloemhof Gallery.
The role is designed as a learning and professionalization trajectory, offering space and guidance for the candidate to develop, deepen, and future-proof their own practice while actively contributing to Uniarte’s programs and organizational growth. Responsibilities span curatorial research, program development, hands-on production, coordination, and support of public programs, residencies, workshops, and community-based activities.
Working closely with the Uniarte team and its expanding local, regional, and international network, the candidate will be involved in various stages of projects, from early research and concept development through execution, logistics, and reflection. The position welcomes candidates of all ages and backgrounds, including emerging and established creative or cultural professionals, as well as those seeking to reorient or expand their practice, who are actively engaged in or curious about interdisciplinary and artistic practices.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow across curatorial thinking, production skills, and collaborative project work within a small, ambitious organization committed to experimentation, exchange, and the strengthening of the cultural infrastructure on the island.
Key Responsibilities
Curatorial & Program Development
Contribute to curatorial research and concept development for exhibitions and programs aligned with UniArte’s mission and thematic focus.
Assist in researching and selecting artists, artworks, and formats that engage with social, cultural, and emotional narratives.
Support the development of public programs, including workshops, lectures, talks, and residencies.
Production & Project Coordination
Coordinate the production and execution of exhibitions and programs, including logistics, timelines, and resource planning.
Support artwork transport, installation, and deinstallation in collaboration with artists and technical partners.
Assist in managing project budgets, schedules, and documentation.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
Act as a liaison between artists, partners, facilitators, and the UniArte team.
Support community engagement and accessibility, ensuring programs resonate with diverse local audiences.
Assist in maintaining clear communication with local and international collaborators.
Development & Reporting
Support basic reporting on projects and programs for internal use and external stakeholders.
Assist with research and preparation related to funding opportunities, grants, and partnerships.
Contribute to documentation and evaluation of projects.
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Arts/Cultural Management, Project Management, or a related field
or equivalent practical experience (approximately 2–6 years).
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Interest in contemporary art and socially engaged cultural practices.
Willingness to continue learning through workshops, courses, and mentorship.
Ability to work alone and in team with strong motivation
Preferred
Experience in both creative/curatorial and organizational/production roles within the arts or cultural sector.
Familiarity with contemporary art practices and transdisciplinary approaches.
Experience working in multicultural or international contexts.
Multilingual proficiency in English, Dutch, Papiamentu, and Spanish.
Basic working knowledge of tools such as Adobe (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator or Canva), Microsoft Excel, and WordPress/Elementor.
Interest in fundraising, grant writing, or cultural development work.
